AKRONPizza robberyAKRON: A driver for Pizza Hut told police he was making a delivery on Cross Street in Akron about 7 p.m. Sunday when a man approached with a gun and demanded money.The robber fled with an unspecified amount of cash.Police say the robber is a black male age 18 to 25. He has short black hair and a goatee. He wore a Pittsburgh Penguins hat, a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.BP robberyAKRON: Workers at a BP gas station on Akron’s east side were robbed Sunday night.Maynard Bartholdi Jr., 46, was later arrested and charged with aggravated robbery and is being held in the Summit County Jail.According to police, a man approached two workers who were smoking outside the station at 316 E. Market St. He handed the workers a note telling them he would shoot them if they did not give him money.The three went inside the station and the robber was given an undisclosed amount of money. Police arrested Bartholdi in the area an hour later and said the money taken during the robbery was recovered.Software upgradeAKRON: The City Council clerk’s office finally will get an upgrade for the software it uses for legislation.Council voted Monday to pay Document Technology Systems of Cuyahoga Falls about $71,000 to update the office’s TrakRecord program. The improved program will enable the clerk’s office to scan, format, search and send legislation electronically.Council Clerk Bob Keith said the office has been requesting the upgrade for several years. He said the improved system will bring the office “up to the current century.”The city’s Information Technology Committee selected Document Technology Systems after getting prices from several companies, Keith said.Councilman Mike Freeman jokingly said this improvement has been discussed “since the Lincoln administration.”“It’s good to see this happen,” he said. Ward meetingsAKRON: Two Akron ward meetings are planned.Ward 9 Councilman Mike Freeman will have his monthly ward meeting at 7 tonight today at a different location.The meeting will be at the recently renovated Thompson and Bishop law firm, 942 Kenmore Blvd.Freeman said he wants residents to see “the opportunities that these older buildings have to offer.” In addition to the law office suite, he said, the building has modern apartments and a huge atrium.Parking is available in the lot at the rear of the building. Refreshments will be served.Ward 4 Councilman Russel Neal Jr. will host a ward meeting at 6:30 tonight at the Lawton Street Community Center, 1225 Lawton St.Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen Scalise will discuss the responsibilities of her office and the recent property tax reappraisals.Residents also will be able to give their input on the annual Ward 4 performance evaluation.jackson townshipApartment fireJACKSON TWP.: Firefighters worked for two hours to extinguish a fire in the Lord Manor apartment complex Monday afternoon.The 3:30 p.m. fire destroyed the two-story, 20-apartment building at 4731 20th St. NW.Authorities say an undisclosed number of residents were taken to the hospital for smoke-related injuries. Park Ave.• 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Cuyahoga Falls Public Library, Graefe Room, 2015 Third St. • 2 to 4 p.m., Twinsburg City Hall, 10075 Ravenna Road.TALLMADGEPolice standoffTALLMADGE: A Tallmadge man, apparently distraught over his pending eviction, threatened suicide during a 90-minute standoff with police Saturday morning.William Hazel, 23, was eventually taken into custody without injury. He was being held in the Summit County Jail on charges of inducing panic, domestic violence, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia.His brother, Robert Hazel, 26, was also charged during the standoff. Police accused the brother of coming to the scene intoxicated, agitating his brother and refusing orders to stop. Robert Hazel was issued a court summons.Police were called to William Hazel’s home in the 1100 block of Newton Street about 1 a.m. Saturday when friends said he was intoxicated and pointing a .22-caliber pistol at himself and others. Police say Hazel became increasingly angry about his pending eviction.The Summit County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team responded and eventually talked Hazel into surrendering about 2:30 a.m.WADSWORTHHearing scheduledWADSWORTH: City Council will hold a public hearing at 7:30 tonight to discuss a proposal to change regulations concerning housing for the elderly.Current regulations do not provide for this type of housing in areas zoned for commercial use. The proposal also would add requirements, including green space, for this housing type.The hearing will be at City Hall, 120 Maple St.
